Mandera County Commissioner assures residents of security ahead of Banisa by-election

Mandera County Commissioner said security apparatus have been mobilized and further expressed gratitude that no incidents have been recorded throughout the campaign period.

Mandera County Commissioner James Chacha has assured residents of Banisa sub-county of their safety ahead of Thursday's by-election, expressing confidence that the exercise will proceed without disruption.

Speaking in Garissa town during a regional forum, Chacha said security apparatus have been mobilised and further expressed gratitude that no incidents have been recorded throughout the campaign period.

"So far so good. Our teams are very well prepared. We do not anticipate any violence in Banisa. The security situation has remained stable, and our officers are on high alert to ensure the by-election proceeds smoothly," Chacha said.

The Commissioner commended residents, candidates and political parties for maintaining peace, noting that Banisa has avoided the violent clashes witnessed in recent by-elections in other parts of the country.

The campaigns have remained calm and low-key, with no single security incident reported.

He urged voters to turn out in large numbers on Thursday, assuring them that adequate security measures have been put in place at all polling stations.

"I urge the people of Banisa to come out and vote. Your safety is guaranteed, and we will ensure a peaceful, transparent and orderly process," he added.

Chacha called upon residents to cooperate with security forces in incidents that were likely to compromise the security of the area during the final polling day.

The by-election has attracted only two candidates: Ahmed Malim Hassan of UDA and Nurdin Maalim Mohamed of UPA.

Ahead of the polling day, the high-stakes two-horse race in the Banisa by-election has entered its most intense phase, as candidates and their supporters in the constituency are in a final push for votes.
